Sustainability meets Connectivity

The Product: Polystone® G

Access Plastics supplied Polystone® G, a high-density polyethylene (PE-HD/PE 300) renowned for its versatility and superior characteristics, making it ideal for applications in chemical equipment and container construction. The key attributes of Polystone® G include:

  • Excellent welding and processing properties
  • High chemical resistance
  • Superior mechanical properties

This material played a crucial role in the development of the new Roaring Water boat, ensuring the vessel’s durability and lightweight design.

Completion and Launch: The welded hull provided a massive yet lightweight structure, manageable by two people. After rigorous efforts, the first Roaring Water boat was successfully launched. Now based in Schull Harbour, this vessel is a testament to the innovative design and collaborative effort behind its creation. We are thrilled to see it in the water, ready for new adventures.

The Boat Building Process

The journey from concept to completion involved months of meticulous planning, designing, calculating, training, and procuring the necessary tools and materials. The manufacturing process began with cutting all the required parts from sheets of HDPE using precision machinery. HDPE’s toughness and durability made it the perfect choice for this project.

Assembly Phase: Unlike traditional HDPE boats like Whalys or most kayaks, which utilize moulds, the Roaring Water boat hull is constructed from individual flat parts welded together. This approach, similar to building steel or aluminium hulls, offers the same benefits of a strong, thick, and incredibly rugged structure, while also being lightweight. The hull’s assembly, characterized by its robust plastic sheets, ensures it can withstand significant impacts and harsh conditions.
